ASAP Backs Delhi Citizens at Jantar Mantar as Air Pollution Hits Hazardous Levels

by Desk

ASAP joins Delhi citizens at Jantar Mantar as Air Pollution turns hazardous. Students demand urgent action and clean air for all residents.

The Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP) on Monday expressed strong solidarity with Delhi’s citizen groups as residents gathered at Jantar Mantar to protest against the alarming rise in air pollution.

ASAP stated that “Delhi is gasping,” calling the current air quality a direct threat to public health. With pollution levels entering the hazardous category for several consecutive days, the organisation urged immediate government intervention and collective public action.

Citizens mobilise for clean air

Participants at Jantar Mantar included students, environmental activists, local RWAs, and health volunteers, all united in demanding urgent measures to restore breathable air in the national capital. Protestors highlighted that the worsening air quality is now affecting children, the elderly, outdoor workers, and daily commuters at an unprecedented scale.

ASAP emphasised that “every moment of inaction costs lives,” pointing to the rising number of respiratory complaints being reported across hospitals in Delhi-NCR.

A call for accountability

Organisers and speakers urged authorities to enforce strict pollution-control measures, improve air-quality monitoring, and hold violators accountable. They also called for long-term policies to reduce vehicular emissions, regulate construction dust, and promote clean energy solutions.

ASAP encouraged more citizens to join the movement, adding that clean air is a fundamental right and “every Delhiite deserves safe and breathable skies.”

Public participation growing

With air quality becoming a yearly crisis, social organisations and student groups reported higher turnout and stronger online engagement this year. Campaigners said the rising awareness among young people is driving momentum for more aggressive policy-level reforms.

ASAP ended its statement urging Delhi residents to stand together, stating that the fight for clean air “belongs to everyone who breathes.”
