Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday claimed that petrol prices in India should be much lower than the current retail rates. Speaking on the issue of Arvind Kejriwal on Petrol Price, the AAP leader said petrol should be available at ₹82 per litre, but consumers are currently paying around ₹102 per litre.
In a post on X, Kejriwal announced that he would hold a press conference at 4 PM to explain his claims regarding fuel pricing and what he described as the burden on consumers.

Hardeep Singh Puri Says Fuel Price Cut Depends on Crude Oil
Kejriwal’s remarks come days after Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that reducing petrol and diesel prices would become a “legitimate question” if international crude oil prices remain at their current levels for the next few weeks.
Addressing a press conference on July 3, Puri said oil marketing companies had earlier absorbed losses and under-recoveries of ₹74,781 crore by selling petrol, diesel, and LPG below cost to shield consumers from global price fluctuations.

He added that while falling crude oil prices are encouraging, it would be premature to speculate on an immediate reduction in retail fuel prices.
Centre Defends E20 Fuel Programme
During the same briefing, Puri also defended the government’s ethanol blending programme and dismissed concerns regarding E20 fuel.
He said that although there may be a slight reduction in mileage, vehicles benefit from improved performance and acceleration. According to the minister, the E20 rollout was implemented after consultations with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
He also stated that insurance companies have reported no issues related to vehicles using E20 fuel.
Fuel Pricing Debate Continues
