New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal E20 Petrol Letter has brought fresh attention to the ongoing debate over the use of E20 (20 per cent ethanol-blended) petrol in older vehicles. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has written to 29 automobile manufacturers seeking clarification on the impact of E20 fuel on vehicles manufactured before 2023.
In his letters, Kejriwal asked automobile companies to inform consumers whether older vehicles are compatible with E20 petrol and whether any issues related to mileage reduction or damage to vehicle components could arise due to its usage.
Kejriwal Seeks Answers From Auto Companies on E20 Fuel
Through the Arvind Kejriwal E20 Petrol Letter, the AAP leader questioned whether companies would compensate consumers in case E20 fuel causes a drop in mileage of more than five per cent or damages any vehicle component.

Kejriwal said that clear information should be provided to vehicle owners regarding the use of E20 petrol in cars and two-wheelers manufactured before 2023.
Letters Sent to 29 Automobile Manufacturers
Kejriwal said he has sent separate letters to three major automobile companies — Maruti Suzuki India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Hero MotoCorp — while another letter was sent to 26 other auto manufacturers.
He stated that companies should mention fuel compatibility clearly in owner manuals so that consumers can make informed decisions.
Government Rejects Concerns Over E20 Petrol
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri dismissed concerns surrounding E20 petrol and said reports of customer problems are a “misrepresentation.”

The minister said automobile manufacturers have accepted E20 fuel and that vehicle owners are also comfortable with the transition. He added that further ethanol blending will only be considered after proper testing and discussions with automakers.
