AAP questions BJP after Saurabh Bharadwaj claims the Mayor used disrespectful language for women councillors, intensifying political tensions in the national capital.
New Delhi: The political temperature in the capital rose sharply after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi convener Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that a BJP mayor had used derogatory language against women councillors from AAP. Addressing a press conference, Bharadwaj released what he described as video proof to support the party’s claims.
According to Bharadwaj, the alleged remarks were made on the same day when Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was publicly highlighting her identity as a woman chief minister and speaking about women’s dignity in politics. He claimed that, during that time, the BJP mayor was captured on video referring to AAP women councillors as “sheep and goats” while sitting inside the mayor’s residence.
“The BJP and the mayor had earlier denied making such comments and termed the allegations false. Today, we are presenting video evidence that clearly shows the mayor using insulting language against women councillors,” Bharadwaj told reporters.
He questioned the ruling party’s commitment to women’s respect and demanded a response from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. “When the Chief Minister speaks about women’s dignity, how will she respond to such language coming from her own party’s mayor?” Bharadwaj asked.

The AAP leader said the video exposes what he termed the “real mindset” of the BJP leadership towards women representatives in civic politics. He further demanded accountability and urged the authorities to take note of the remarks, stating that such language lowers the standard of political discourse and disrespects elected women representatives.
The video has since begun circulating on social media platforms, drawing sharp reactions from political observers and the public. Several users have criticized the alleged comments and called for strict action if the video is verified.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the BJP nor the mayor has issued an official response to the video released during the press conference. The controversy is expected to further intensify political debate in Delhi in the coming days, especially around issues of women’s respect, accountability, and political conduct.
