New Delhi: The opposition raised serious concerns in the MCD House over Delhi’s readiness for the upcoming monsoon, highlighting the issue of waterlogging and alleged lack of adequate planning by the administration. The remarks were shared by AAP leader Ankush Narang on social media.
The discussion in the House centered around the MCD monsoon preparedness, with opposition members warning that the capital may once again face severe flooding if timely measures are not taken.
Opposition Raises Questions on MCD Monsoon Preparedness
During the proceedings, opposition councillors strongly questioned the MCD monsoon preparedness, stating that there is little visible action on ground-level drainage cleaning and infrastructure upgrades. They claimed that despite repeated warnings every year, the same issues of waterlogging continue to persist.
@AnkushNarang_ pic.twitter.com/lSlsbLiOCA

The MCD monsoon preparedness debate also reflected growing public concern over Delhi’s recurring monsoon crisis.
Allegations of Lack of Visible Action
Opposition members alleged that the monsoon preparedness plan appears inadequate, with insufficient drainage desilting and slow execution of flood-control measures. They further stated that residents may once again face inconvenience if proper steps are not implemented urgently.
According to them, the MCD monsoon preparedness strategy lacks coordination and urgency ahead of heavy rainfall.
Concerns Over Possible Waterlogging in Delhi
The opposition also warned that Delhi residents could face widespread waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season if the MCD monsoon preparedness remains weak. They emphasized that several low-lying areas are still vulnerable due to incomplete drainage work.
The discussion highlighted that effective monsoon preparedness is essential to prevent disruption in daily life and transportation.
Call for Immediate Action
Opposition leaders urged the civic body to strengthen the monsoon preparedness plan through faster drainage cleaning, better monitoring systems, and timely completion of pending works.
They stressed that improved MCD monsoon preparedness is crucial to avoid a repeat of previous years’ flooding and traffic chaos in the capital.
