New Delhi, August 14:
Heavy downpour in the national capital on the morning of August 14, 2025, turned deadly in Kalkaji, where a massive neem tree collapsed onto a motorcycle, killing a 50-year-old man and critically injuring his 22-year-old daughter, police confirmed.
The tree fell around 9:50 AM near Paras Chowk, just outside an HDFC bank, as intense rains lashed the area. The victims, identified as Sudhir Kumar and his daughter Priya, were trapped beneath the fallen tree together with their bike. Despite a quick rescue operation by a crane, Sudhir was declared dead on arrival at AIIMS Trauma Centre, while Priya was still in critical condition.
Flooding of key arterial roads including DND Flyway, Ashram, Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Mathura Road, Outer Ring Road near Subroto Park, and Rao Tula Ram Marg, after the storm resulted in traffic snarls and chaos. The Public Works Department has received dozens of complaints of water logging, particularly from South and North Delhi.
Traffic police put advisories on X asking commuters to take alternate routes as water logged underpasses and low-lying stretches, with AIIMS flyover, South Extension Loop, Ring Road, and Moolchand being among the most affected.
