PM Modi, Nitish Kumar Launch ₹5,900 Crore Development Projects in Bihar’s Siwan

Siwan, Bihar — June 21, 2025: In a significant push to accelerate Bihar’s infrastructure and economic development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today jointly inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹5,900 crore in Jasoli Kharg, Pachrukhi, Siwan district.

Addressing a large public gathering, PM Modi emphasized the transformative nature of these initiatives, which span urban development, housing, drinking water, power, and railways, all aimed at elevating the standard of living in one of India’s most populous states.

Multi-Sector Projects to Uplift Bihar’s Infrastructure

The event featured the launch and groundwork of multiple key projects that are expected to catalyze regional growth:

  • Urban Development & Housing Projects: Several new affordable housing schemes and town planning initiatives to reduce urban congestion and improve living standards in small towns and cities.
  • Water Power (Jal Shakti) Projects: Expansion of clean drinking water pipelines under the Har Ghar Jal mission, particularly in rural areas of Siwan and surrounding districts.
  • Electricity Infrastructure: Modernization of power grids and rural electrification efforts aimed at reducing power outages and enhancing energy efficiency.
  • Railway Boost: The manufacturing of railway engines locally is expected to generate employment and support ancillary industries.

Vande Bharat Express: Patliputra to Gorakhpur

One of the most eagerly awaited announcements was the introduction of the Vande Bharat Express between Patliputra and Gorakhpur. This new-age high-speed train will significantly reduce travel time, offer modern passenger amenities, and boost intercity connectivity across eastern Uttar Pradesh and western Bihar.

“The launch of Vande Bharat from Patliputra to Gorakhpur will bring new energy to the region’s development and convenience for daily commuters,” said PM Modi during his address.

Industrial Push with Railway Engine Manufacturing

With the inauguration of a new railway engine manufacturing initiative, Bihar is stepping into the industrial spotlight. The move is expected to:

  • Boost the state’s industrial output
  • Generate thousands of skilled and semi-skilled jobs
  • Strengthen India’s Make-in-India program

Nitish Kumar emphasized that the state government will fully support these industrial ventures, ensuring a smooth investment climate and required infrastructure.

Leadership Comments: Development and Political Unity

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed gratitude to the Centre for its cooperation and reiterated the state’s commitment to long-term development.

“These projects will change the lives of ordinary people. Whether it is better homes, faster trains, or job opportunities, Bihar is moving forward,” said Nitish Kumar.

PM Modi lauded Nitish’s developmental vision and declared the day a “milestone in Bihar’s journey towards prosperity.”

Strategic Timing Before Elections

The large-scale rollout comes months before the Bihar Assembly elections, with the Janata Dal (United)–BJP alliance aiming to present a united development-focused front against the RJD-Congress coalition.

Political analysts view the event as a blend of policy delivery and political messaging, designed to underline the ruling coalition’s progress record in Bihar.
