Nitish Kumar Engages Jeevika Didis, Boosts Women Entrepreneurship in East Champaran

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar meets Jeevika Didis, reviews ₹10,000 seed fund use, and inspects tourism & education initiatives in Kesariya, East Champaran.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar engaged with rural women and Jeevika Didis, the self-help workers, in the Kesariya block of East Champaran district to gather feedback on how women have utilized the ₹10,000 seed money transmitted into their accounts to establish their own enterprises. Some of the women interviewed by HT informed the CM about their businesses, which included vegetable outlets and tea stalls.

The Chief Minister has been touring districts of Bihar as part of his post-election Pragati Yatra to assess the progress of various initiatives concerning healthcare facilities, education, tourism, and other sectors.

At the Rajkiya Uchh Madhyamik Vidyalaya in Tajpur, Kesariya block, hundreds of women—serving as Jeevika Didis, cooks, Anganwadi workers, Mamata workers, Vikas Mitras, Talimi Markaz instructors, and Tola Sevaka—set up their stalls to demonstrate that the seed money allocated to them had been utilized for its intended purpose.

Jeevika Didis, including Manju Kumari, Poonam Kumari, and Rinku Kumari, shared their experiences with the Chief Minister.

“This modest sum was very meaningful to me, as it enabled me to operate a grocery store in my native village,” stated Manju Kumari, a resident of Sundrapur Bhusaulwa in Panchmi Sundrapur Panchayat.

On her part, Rinku Kumari, another recipient of ₹10,000 in seed funding, stated that the amount has significantly assisted her in establishing a vegetable shop at Lala Chhaora Chowk near Kesariya. Yes, I have successfully supplemented my revenue through the prudent utilization of ₹10,000, Kumari informed CM Kumar.

Other women also recounted similar experiences of establishing their enterprises with the aid of the grant.

Enhancing tourism

During his visit, the Chief Minister, accompanied by Deputy Samrat Chaudhary and other state ministers, also visited the renowned Kesariya Buddha Stupa and various other tourist attractions. He stated that the forthcoming tourist facility center in East Champaran district would serve to benefit thousands of visitors to the historic site annually and facilitate a deeper understanding of Buddhism.

According to the CMO, Kumar inspected the ongoing construction of the tourist facility center at Kesariya and instructed officials to accelerate its completion.Timely completion of the center would benefit a significant number of travelers who visit the historic Buddha Stupa annually and facilitate their understanding of various aspects of Buddhism, as well as Bihar’s rich cultural heritage, he stated.

According to the statement, the forthcoming center will feature a 5D theatre with a seating capacity of 48, where exhibits pertaining to significant Buddhist teachings will be showcased. A dedicated Bihar pavilion highlighting the state’s historical heritage is also under construction.

He also visited the Government Middle School and Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ School in Kesariya, assessed the state of the educational system, engaged with students, and inaugurated a public library.
