Sarfaraz Khan excluded from India A team despite impressive domestic runs and recent fitness improvements, sparking questions about selectors’ decisions.
Sarfaraz Khan has been excluded from the India A team, much alone the senior national squad, despite having a ton of domestic cricket runs under his credit and undergoing a recent physical makeover that saw him shed 17 kg. The Mumbai hitter was left off of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Tuesday roster announcement for the next India A home series against South Africa A. Furthermore, the BCCI has not yet disclosed the cause.
Sarfaraz has fulfilled all the requirements to guarantee his place in the Indian Test team. In first-class cricket, he has amassed 2467 runs at an average of 117.47 over the past five years, including ten hundreds. Sarfaraz remained a mainstay in local cricket even after making his debut for the Indian team last year, smashing fifty in both innings. After receiving criticism regarding his health, he changed throughout the last summer and went on to score 108 and 109 at the Buchi Babu competition held before the season. Sarfaraz was rejected from the India A squad on Tuesday in spite of everything.

Nonetheless, the right-hander batsman scored 92 runs in one innings while playing for the final India A team that toured England. The Indian Express reported that Sarfaraz was only included to that team because “it was felt that his absence might raise uncomfortable questions as he was a contracted player.” Social media has not spared the selectors for leaving Sarfaraz out of the India A squad, therefore the BCCI’s concern did come true this time.
According to the report, Sarfaraz was also given the assurance that “he will be considered for home Test series.” However, because he was still recovering from an injury he sustained during the Buchi Babu tournament and the Centre of Excellence (COE) had not cleared his fitness, he was not chosen for the match against the West Indies, which was played earlier this month. By the way, Sarfaraz passed his fitness test two days after the squad was named on September 25. The article also pointed out that Sarfaraz was not listed in the squad list, unlike the majority of other players, with the asterisk sign indicating “subject to fitness.”

Sarfaraz’s position in the Indian Test cricket scene is unclear, as the entire affair has made quite evident. According to the report, there are rumors that he might make his debut for India if he can play higher up the order, most likely at No. 4 in the Mumbai lineup.
