Sakibul Gani scored the fastest-ever List A century in India in just 32 balls, helping Bihar set a record 574/6 against Arunachal Pradesh. Vaibhav Suryavanshi also smashed a 36-ball century in this historic Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter.

It is rare to outshine 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s brutal powerhitting, but on Wednesday, during their Vijay Hazare Trophy Plate encounter against Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar teammate Sakibul Gani accomplished just that. While Suryavanshi reached an 84-ball 190 after smashing his century in only 36 balls, Gani achieved the fastest-ever List A century by an Indian in just 32 deliveries. Anmolpreet Singh’s 35-ball century against Arunachal Pradesh in 2024 was surpassed by Gani.

After hitting 10 boundaries and 12 sixes throughout his blitzkrieg, Gani finished undefeated with an incredible 128 from just 40 balls.

Gani, Suryavanshi, and wicketkeeper Ayush Loharuka (116 off 56) all contributed to Bihar’s massive 574/6 in 50 overs, which is the biggest total ever recorded in professional one-day cricket.

In the same match, Suryavanshi scored his own 36-ball century, which is the fourth-fastest by an Indian in List A cricket.

Soon after Suryavanshi’s heroics ended, with Bihar at 391/3 in 39.3 overs, Gani came in to bat. By that time, Tamil Nadu has set a new record for the highest one-day score (506).

But because to Gani’s efforts, Bihar not only made history but also wiped out Tamil Nadu’s record.

Gani, 26, is a native of the Bihar city of Motihari. With a List A strike-rate of just 71.95 prior to the game, his statistics indicate that he is not the most destructive of batters while being a batting all-rounder.

But Gani was at his most damaging on Wednesday. Twenty-two deliveries ended up beyond the ropes, and only five of the forty balls he faced were dots.

In the meantime, Vaibhav Suryavanshi achieved the fastest 150 in one-day cricket history and shattered the record for the youngest List A century.
