Nuwan Thushara IPL 2026 Files Court Case Against Sri Lanka Cricket

Nuwan Thushara challenges SLC after No Objection Certificate denial, risking his IPL 2026 season and signaling possible end of international cricket career.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Nuwan Thushara IPL 2026 legal battle escalates as he files a court case against top officials of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The 30-year-old fast bowler has been denied a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by SLC, which has put his participation in the 2026 IPL season in jeopardy.

According to reports, Thushara has informed SLC that he does not intend to renew his central contract and plans to move away from international cricket to focus on T20 leagues, including the IPL.

Fitness Standards vs IPL Dreams

The dispute arose when SLC refused to issue Thushara the required paperwork to join RCB in India. The board cited that he failed to meet fitness standards necessary for international and franchise cricket.

However, Nuwan Thushara IPL 2026 petition argues that his fitness levels have remained consistent throughout his career. He emphasized that these same standards had never prevented him from receiving an NOC in the past. Thushara has named SLC President Shammi Silva and CEO Ashley de Silva as defendants in the case.

Financial Loss and Retirement Plans

Thushara, bought by RCB for 1.6 Crore INR in 2025, played a key role in RCB’s title-winning campaign last season. Missing the 2026 IPL season would result in significant financial and professional losses for the pacer. With his SLC contract expiring on March 31 and his choice not to renew it, Nuwan Thushara IPL 2026 could mark the end of his international career.

He has petitioned the Colombo District Court to direct SLC to allow him to join his IPL franchise immediately.

Impact on RCB

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have started their IPL 2026 campaign with a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, the potential absence of a strike bowler like Thushara could weaken RCB’s death-over bowling. The court has scheduled a hearing for April 9, leaving Thushara in limbo as he awaits the final decision.

Fans and cricket analysts are closely watching the situation, as Nuwan Thushara IPL 2026 could influence not only his career but also RCB’s title defence prospects.
