Head coach Khalid Jamil and key players, including Ashique Kuruniyan, Sahal Abdul Samad, and Bijoy Varghese, were denied entry into the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium due to a payment dispute, leaving fans, officials, and media personnel stunned.

The national team had arrived at the stadium for a scheduled pre-match press conference, marking the first time in nearly a decade that India played in Kochi. However, the Indian football controversy escalated when security staff of the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) blocked the coach and players, citing unpaid dues. Even journalists were denied entry, causing significant disruption to media duties and pre-match activities.
Kerala Football Association (KFA) president Navas Meeran attempted to downplay the issue, describing it as a “minor technical problem” and assuring that the AFC Asian Cup qualifier, scheduled for 31 March, would proceed as planned. “The Asian Cup qualifier will go ahead as planned. What happened on Thursday was a minor technical problem, and it will be sorted out soon,” Meeran said.
GCDA Denies Stadium Access Over Security Deposit Dispute Ahead of Indian Football Match
According to reports, the GCDA demanded a security deposit of Rs 20–25 lakh, along with an additional Rs 3 lakh as rent, to allow access to the stadium. KFA requested more time for payment, but GCDA officials refused entry until the full amount was settled.

This incident mirrors a similar dispute in February, when Indian Super League (ISL) club Kerala Blasters was denied entry at the same venue due to payment disagreements.
