Harbajan Singh rallies behind Karun Nair: ” what crime has he committed”
Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has fired back at critics and has backed Karun Nair, urging team management to give him the same patience that other batsman received. He questioned why Nair is being unfairly scrutinized when players like Shubman Gill and KL Rahul were given more chances
Nair has had a tough time in first three tests in England scoring only 131 runs across six innings, (0, 20, 31, 26, 40, 14), an average under 22.
Harbhajan emphasized all players deserve a fair chance, adding that if others were given five or six games to settle in, Nair deserves the same opportunity. He also criticized the way Sai Sudarshan was dropped after just one test and said that once you give a player few chances, you should stick with them.
Harbhajan pointed out Nair’s comeback: after 8 years out of the test side, he returned following a prolific domestic season- 863 runs at an average of 54 in Ranji trophy and 779 runs in Vijay Hazare trophy. These strong performances helped him get selected again
He also defended coach Gautam Gambhir, saying coaching demands time and blaming him for India falling behind in series is unfair.
In short:
Harbhajan Singh called for fairness – If versatile Gill and Rahul got extended runs, so should Karun Nair. It’s time to let him settle in and reply the faith.
