Ben Duckett IPL Ban Speculation Grows After Sudden Exit from Tournament

England Opener’s Late Withdrawal from Delhi Capitals Could Trigger Two-Season Suspension Under IPL Rules

by Tamanna

New Delhi :  Speculation is growing around a possible Ben Duckett IPL ban after the England opener withdrew from the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), just weeks before the tournament’s start. Ben Duckett, who was signed by Delhi Capitals for ₹2 crore, could face disciplinary action under league regulations for pulling out at a late stage.

Ben Duckett IPL Ban Risk Grows Due to Strict Withdrawal Rules

The Ben Duckett IPL ban possibility stems from IPL rules that penalize players who withdraw after being picked in the auction without valid injury or approved replacement reasons. Such late exits are considered disruptive to team planning and can attract strict sanctions.

According to the current IPL framework, players who opt out at this stage may face a two-season suspension. If enforced, the Ben Duckett IPL ban could rule him out of the tournament until 2029, dealing a significant blow to his IPL career.

This is not the first instance of such action involving an England player. Harry Brook, Duckett’s international teammate, is already serving a similar suspension after withdrawing from a deal with Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2025 season. The precedent strengthens the likelihood of the Ben Duckett IPL ban being implemented if the league follows consistent disciplinary measures.

Duckett Explains Withdrawal Decision

In a statement, Duckett clarified that his decision was driven by his commitment to England cricket and the need to prepare for the upcoming international season.

“I have made the extremely difficult decision to withdraw from the IPL. Representing England has always been my dream, and I want to give my best to the team. To do that, I need to be in the best physical and mental condition ahead of the summer,” he said.

Duckett also issued an apology to Delhi Capitals and their supporters. “I was genuinely excited to represent the franchise and understand the effort that goes into building a squad. I am sorry for any disruption caused and also apologise to the fans,” he added.

What Lies Ahead

While the final decision is yet to be announced, the Ben Duckett IPL ban situation highlights the strict nature of IPL regulations and the risks players face when withdrawing after the auction. For Delhi Capitals, the immediate priority will be identifying a suitable replacement to maintain squad balance ahead of IPL 2026.
