Centenary of Indian Hockey kicks off with 1,400 matches, special events at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, and honors for hockey legends.
Nationwide festivities will initiate today in observance of a centennial milestone marking one hundred years of Indian Hockey excellence. Over 1,400 contests will be conducted throughout 550 districts in commemoration of the centenary festivities. The principal proceedings are scheduled to occur at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi commencing at 08:30 AM, encompassing a series of distinguished events that embody the illustrious history of Indian hockey.

A thirty-minute exhibition contest between the Union Minister’s XI and Hockey India’s Mixed XI (comprising both male and female athletes) will serve to emphasize gender equality, collaborative effort, and inclusivity, featuring distinguished players from the national men’s and women’s teams. This will be succeeded by the honoring of hockey luminaries in acknowledgment of their significant contributions to the sport. A formal commemorative volume entitled 100 Years of Indian Hockey will likewise be issued in celebration of the numerous generations of athletes who have contributed to the establishment of India’s hockey heritage.
A comprehensive photographic exhibition will also be held at the stadium, guiding visitors through a visual narrative celebrating a century of illustrious Indian Hockey achievements. India maintains its position as the world’s preeminent hockey nation, having secured eight Olympic gold medals and achieved thirteen podium finishes at the Olympic Games.
