Importance of Magh Snan for Mauni Amavasya
Amavasya is considered a sacred tithi, and Mauni Amavasya, which falls in the month of Magh, is very important spiritually. According to religious traditions, this day assists followers in achieving release from sins accrued throughout many lifetimes. Silence (maun), together with bathing, meditation, and penance, is an age-old custom. A holy bath at the Sangam on Mauni Amavasya is thought to have the same effect as conducting a Rajasuya Yagya, bringing total wealth and happiness.

How to Get the Merit of Magh Snan at Home
If you are unable to attend the Magh Mela on Mauni Amavasya, you can acquire spiritual merit from home. While bathing, combine sesame seeds with Gangajal and chant chants to Goddess Ganga.
Make pitru tarpan at home with black sesame seeds and water. In a copper vase, combine water and milk, add black sesame seeds, and serve the water while recalling the names of your forefathers. To ask for their blessing, repeat this process three times.
