Healthy Screen Time for Children: In today’s fast-paced world, it is common for children to interact with phones, tablets, and even social media apps at a young age, particularly when both parents are employed and the digital age is at its height. It’s also critical to recognize that while technology has advantages, excessive and uncontrolled screen time can have negative effects on children’s behavior, mental health, emotional development, and physical development.

Why Is Controlling Screen Time Important?

According to Doctors studies have repeatedly demonstrated that children’s excessive screen usage is linked to:

  • Behavioral and emotional issues
  • Sedentary behavior and decreased physical activity

What Screen Time Limits Are Suggested by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) Guidelines?

Youngsters under the age of two should not use screens at all because screen time hinders early brain development.

  • Children between the ages of 24 months and 59 months (2–5 years): Less than an hour of screen usage per day, constant adult supervision, and age-appropriate and instructive content are all recommended.
  • Children between the ages of five and ten: No more than two hours daily
  • All types of screens, TVs, cell phones, tablets, computers, and gaming consoles are included in these restrictions.

Finally, digital wellness refers to the careful and responsible use of screens rather than their complete elimination. It is the responsibility of parents to teach their children that the real world exists outside of screens from a young age.
