Every year, thousands of devotees embark on the sacred Amarnath Yatra 2026, driven by deep faith and the promise of a divine experience. This year, the pilgrimage is scheduled from July 3 to August 9, spanning 38 days. However, before beginning this spiritual journey, proper preparation is essential, especially as registrations officially open on April 15, 2026.

Organised by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), the Amarnath Yatra 2026 follows a well-regulated system to ensure safety, crowd control, and smooth operations. From Aadhaar-based verification to mandatory health checks, here’s everything you need to know.

Registration Process: Online and Offline

Online Registration

Devotees can register for the Amarnath Yatra 2026 through the official SASB website or the “Shri Amarnathji Yatra” mobile app starting April 15. The process requires OTP verification via a registered mobile number and email ID.

Applicants must upload:
  • A scanned Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) issued on or after April 8, 2026

Offline Registration

For those who prefer offline methods, registration is available at 554 designated bank branches across India. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a fixed daily quota.

The process includes:
  • Aadhaar-based biometric eKYC verification
  • Instant registration confirmation
  • Manual entry with webcam photo capture in case of technical issues

A registration fee of Rs 150 is applicable per person.

RFID Card Mandatory for Entry

A major requirement for the Amarnath Yatra 2026 is the mandatory RFID card. After completing registration, pilgrims must collect this card from designated centres in Jammu and Kashmir following biometric verification.

Without the RFID card, entry through key access points like Domel or Chandanwari will not be allowed.

Eligibility Criteria and Health Requirements

Authorities have maintained strict eligibility rules for the Amarnath Yatra 2026:

  • Age must be between 13 and 70 years
  • Women beyond six weeks of pregnancy are not permitted
  • A valid Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) is mandatory

Bank officials will verify health documents to ensure authenticity before issuing permits.

Routes to the Holy Shrine

Pilgrims can choose between two main routes:

  • Pahalgam Route (Traditional): Around 46 km (one way), offering a gradual climb and a more traditional experience
  • Baltal Route (Shorter but Steeper): Approximately 14 km (one way), faster but more physically demanding

Helicopter services are also available from both routes up to Panchtarni for those unable to complete the trek on foot.

Important Guidelines and Safety Measures

To ensure a safe and smooth Amarnath Yatra 2026, several guidelines have been put in place:

  • Bookings close seven days before the यात्रा date
  • Group registration is allowed for 5 to 30 people
  • Permits will clearly mention travel date and route
  • Help desks are available at designated bank branches

Additionally, facilities like tents, accommodation, and medical aid are provided along the route. However, due to unpredictable weather and challenging terrain, pilgrims are advised to stay physically fit and carry suitable clothing.

Final Thoughts

With limited slots and high demand, early registration for the Amarnath Yatra 2026 is highly recommended. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a returning devotee, understanding the process and guidelines can ensure a safe and spiritually fulfilling journey.
