Kolkata: The West Bengal budget 2026-27 was presented in the state assembly on Monday (June 22), unveiling a series of major announcements focused on employment generation, employee benefits, and social welfare schemes across the state.
The budget has been described as a key financial roadmap for governance and development priorities, with the West Bengal budget 2026-27 placing strong emphasis on job creation, women empowerment, and improved public services.
West Bengal Budget 2026-27 Focuses on 1 lakh government jobs announced
A major highlight of the West Bengal budget 2026-27 is the announcement of 1 lakh new government job vacancies. The government has also proposed 33% reservation for women in these posts, aiming to strengthen female participation in public employment.
This recruitment drive is expected to be one of the largest employment initiatives under the West Bengal budget 2026-27.
20% DA hike for employees and pensioners
The Bengal budget 2026-27 also includes a 20% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners. With this revision, total DA will rise to 38%, effective from April 1, 2026.

The move is expected to provide significant financial relief to government staff and pensioners under the Bengal budget 2026-27 framework.
Women-focused welfare schemes
Another key feature of the Bengal budget 2026-27 is the continuation of free bus services for women. The government has allocated ₹550 crore for this initiative and plans to introduce a pink card system to ensure smoother access to benefits.
In addition, large allocations have been made for welfare schemes such as GRAMM and Annapurna Yojana under the West Bengal budget 2026-27.
Journalist pension and administrative reforms
The Bengal budget 2026-27 also brings relief for retired journalists with the announcement of a ₹5,000 monthly pension. This move is aimed at supporting the media community after retirement.
The budget further includes administrative reforms such as mining auctions through e-auction systems, creation of new police districts, and expansion of fire services across the state.
