UDF Government in Kerala: After two weeks of the Kerala Assembly election results, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) officially formed the new government in Kerala. Senior Congress leader VD Satheesan took oath as the new Chief Minister of Kerala at a grand swearing-in ceremony held at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
Governor Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Satheesan along with 20 other ministers. The ceremony marked the return of the Congress-led UDF government to power in Kerala after a gap of 10 years.
UDF Government Returns to Power in Kerala
The formation of the new UDF government in Kerala marks the end of the decade-long rule of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by veteran CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan. The Congress-led alliance achieved a massive victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections, securing 102 seats in the 140-member Kerala Assembly.
The Congress party alone won a record 63 seats, making it the party’s best-ever performance in the state. Political analysts are calling the victory a major comeback for the UDF government in Kerala.
Key Leaders Attend Swearing-In Ceremony
Several senior Congress leaders attended the oath-taking ceremony, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Speaking on the occasion, Kharge described the victory as “historic” and said the people of Kerala had rejected the LDF’s 10-year rule. He added that the new UDF government in Kerala now carries the responsibility of delivering transparent and people-centric governance.
