US President Trump invites India to join a “Board of Peace” to oversee postwar Gaza reconstruction, raising global diplomatic debates.

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has invited India to join what he calls a “Board of Peace”, aimed at overseeing governance and reconstruction in postwar Gaza.

According to the White House, the initiative will include a main board, chaired by Trump himself, a Palestinian committee of technocrats responsible for administering the war-torn region, and a separate “executive board” with a primarily advisory role. Pakistan has reportedly also received an invitation to participate.

India’s inclusion is seen as feasible due to its historic ties with both Israel and Palestine. The country maintains a strategic partnership with Israel and has provided consistent humanitarian aid to Palestine, including sending relief to Gaza via Egypt soon after the recent conflict began.

Israel’s envoy to India, Reuven Azar, told that Pakistan would be unacceptable to Israel for any role in Gaza’s future.

The board, established on January 15 as part of Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza, is viewed as a potential framework for addressing other international conflicts in the future.

However, global reactions to the invitation have been cautious. Diplomats have expressed concern that Trump’s initiative could undermine the work of the United Nations. Only Hungary, led by a close Trump ally, has publicly accepted the invitation. Other governments have been reluctant to comment publicly, with some officials raising concerns anonymously, according to Reuters.

The White House has not clarified the specific responsibilities of board members, but said that additional members would be announced in the coming weeks.

The separate 11-member Gaza Executive Board is set to include Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, UN Middle East peace coordinator Sigrid Kaag, UAE International Cooperation Minister Reem Al-Hashimy, Israeli-Cypriot billionaire Yakir Gabay, and officials from Qatar and the UAE.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated that the board’s composition had not been coordinated with Israel and contradicted its policy, likely referring to Fidan’s inclusion. Israel also maintains a tense relationship with Qatar, highlighting potential diplomatic friction.
