Thane Monsoon News: Heavy Rains Claim Three Lives, Hundreds Shifted to Safety

Heavy rainfall across Thane district has claimed three lives, injured several people, damaged over 130 houses

Thane: The latest Thane Monsoon News paints a grim picture as continuous heavy rainfall across the district has claimed three lives, injured several people, and forced the evacuation of nearly 800 residents over the past week. Authorities remain on high alert as monsoon-related incidents continue to disrupt normal life across multiple parts of the district.

According to the district administration, the fatalities include one person each from Thane city, Ambernath, and Mira Bhayander. In addition, 11 people have sustained injuries in various rain-related accidents during the ongoing monsoon season.

Lightning Strike Injures Two in Murbad

In the latest weather-related incident, a lightning strike injured two people, including a teenage girl, in Murbad taluka on Wednesday. Officials said both victims were immediately shifted to the Tokawde Primary Health Centre, where they are undergoing treatment and are reported to be out of danger.

The Thane Monsoon News also reported two separate drowning incidents in Bhiwandi. Two young boys drowned in a river and a nullah on July 5 and July 6, respectively, with search operations still underway to trace them.

Heavy Rain Causes Massive Damage Across District

Relentless rainfall has severely affected infrastructure across the district. According to official figures, 136 houses have either partially or completely collapsed due to heavy rains. The downpour has also destroyed five huts, two poultry farms, one community hall, and an Anganwadi centre.

The Thane Monsoon News further revealed that emergency response teams rescued and relocated 797 people from 229 families to safer locations as floodwaters threatened residential areas.

Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified man was recovered from the swollen Potgaon River in Murbad. Police have initiated an investigation to establish his identity, while the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Authorities Clear Blocked Drainage Channels in Kalwa

District authorities acted swiftly after overflowing hill torrents posed a serious threat to residents of Adarsh Chawl in Kalwa. A joint inspection found that natural drainage channels and nullahs had become clogged with debris, causing rainwater to overflow into nearby homes.

The Thane Municipal Corporation immediately deployed personnel to clear the blocked drainage system, restoring the natural flow of water and preventing further flooding in the locality.

Officials confirmed that despite the flooding threat, no structural collapses or additional financial losses were reported in the Kalwa area following the emergency response.
