The remarks by Rahul Gandhi came during a key meeting of the Congress Scheduled Caste (SC) Department held in Delhi, chaired by national president Rajendra Pal Gautam. The meeting focused on strengthening the party’s outreach among Dalit communities and expanding political representation at organizational and governmental levels.
During the session, Rahul Gandhi emphasized that if the Congress had focused more strongly on the Scheduled Caste community in the 1980s and 1990s, regional parties might not have become as politically dominant as they are today. His comments reflect a broader strategy discussion within the party aimed at rebuilding grassroots support.

Congress Plans to Boost Dalit Representation and Strengthen Grassroots Outreach
The Congress SC Department meeting also highlighted plans to increase Dalit representation within the party structure and in state governments where Congress is in power. Leaders discussed strategies to strengthen the party at the grassroots level and address issues of social justice across the country.
The meeting witnessed participation from around 380 district-level representatives from 15 states, marking one of the party’s significant organizational outreach efforts in recent times. Party leaders said the focus remains on empowering marginalized communities and rebuilding Congress’s political base.
