Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday reviewed the ongoing Pune-Mumbai ghat section restoration work after train operations resumed on one line following severe landslides caused by heavy rainfall on July 7. The landslides had blocked railway operations and caused significant damage to tracks and surrounding areas.

During his inspection, Vaishnaw assessed the progress of restoration efforts and said that the damage in the ghat section was extensive. Teams from Central Railway and Western Railway are working together to restore normal train operations as quickly as possible.

One Railway Line Restored for Train Operations

The Pune-Mumbai ghat section restoration gained momentum after railway authorities successfully reopened one line of the affected route. Officials said that the restored line became operational around 11:30 pm on Tuesday, allowing trains to resume movement on the important route.

Railway officials are closely monitoring train operations on the single restored line to ensure passenger safety and smooth movement.

Special Arrangements for Train Operations

Ashwini Vaishnaw informed that temporary operational arrangements have been made due to the steep inclines in the ghat section. Two locomotives have been attached to both ends of trains to provide additional pulling power and ensure safe movement through the challenging terrain.

Efforts Continue to Clear Remaining Blockage

While one line has been restored, the slip line remains blocked due to the landslide. Railway teams are working continuously to remove debris and complete the remaining Pune-Mumbai ghat section restoration work at the earliest.

The Railway Minister said that transporting construction materials to certain locations remains a challenge. Teams are coordinating with district authorities and the Forest Department to speed up repair and restoration activities.

Railway Teams Working for Early Normalisation

The Pune-Mumbai ghat section restoration is being carried out with coordination between multiple railway departments and local authorities. The focus remains on restoring full connectivity while ensuring safety standards are maintained.

The Pune-Mumbai railway route is an important connectivity link, and railway authorities are taking all necessary steps to bring train services back to normal after the disruption caused by heavy rainfall and landslides.
