The ambitious Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project is moving closer to completion, with around 80% of the construction work now finished. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the ₹1.10 lakh crore project is expected to be completed within the next two years, after which travel between Delhi and Mumbai will be reduced to just 12 hours.
The minister highlighted that the project is not only focused on improving connectivity but will also create new opportunities for industries, businesses and employment in the regions through which the expressway passes.
Nitin Gadkari Reviews Construction Progress
Nitin Gadkari inspected the ongoing construction work of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway from the Labhan Interchange in Bundi to the Dara Tunnel in Kota. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma were also present during the inspection.
During the review, officials provided updates on the progress of the project and discussed measures to ensure timely completion and smooth operations after its launch.
Expressway to Become a New Development Corridor
Addressing a public gathering near Gopalpura Mataji, Gadkari said that the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is not just a road project but a major development corridor. The expressway aims to bring economic growth to areas that were previously considered less developed.

He said that regions connected by the expressway will witness expansion in industries, logistics hubs, educational institutions and healthcare facilities. The project is expected to generate new employment opportunities and support regional economic development.
Atal Expressway Project Also Under Preparation
Gadkari also mentioned the proposed Atal Expressway between Kota and Etawah. He informed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the ₹15,000 crore project is being prepared. The highway is expected to improve connectivity and accelerate development in the Chambal region.
Centre Assures Support for Rajasthan Road Projects
During the event, Nitin Gadkari said that the central government will continue to provide financial support for road development projects in Rajasthan. He assured that there would be no shortage of funds for infrastructure projects proposed by the state government.
Focus on Safety and Traffic Management
Before the inspection, the Union Minister held a meeting with officials to review safety measures and traffic management plans for the expressway. He instructed authorities to increase regular patrolling and take strict action against heavy vehicles parked improperly on roadsides to reduce accident risks.
The completion of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is expected to bring major changes in India’s transport infrastructure. The project will reduce travel time, lower logistics costs and promote industrial growth across multiple states, including Rajasthan. It is being considered one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening connectivity and economic development.
