The discussions are aimed at enhancing cooperation across defence, energy, trade, investment, education, culture, and tourism. The visit also coincides with the 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum.

In a statement before departure, PM Modi said, “We will aim to deepen our defence and security ties, strengthen economic and innovation partnerships, and expand collaboration into new areas.”

The Prime Minister expressed enthusiasm about engaging with the Indian community in Malaysia, which numbers nearly three million, calling them “one of the largest Indian diasporas in the world.” He lauded their contributions to Malaysia’s development and described their role as a “living bridge” between the two nations, reinforcing the historic friendship.

Agenda for the Visit

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), PM Modi will hold talks with Anwar Ibrahim, interact with the Indian community, and meet representatives from business and industry sectors. The MEA highlighted the “long-standing bonds of friendship” between India and Malaysia, rooted in historical, civilisational, and cultural ties.

India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, BN Reddy, added that the visit will focus on implementing review recommendations, expanding initiatives launched in 2024, and exploring new areas of cooperation under India’s broader Indo-Pacific vision, dubbed “Mahasagar.”

Reddy also noted that India and Malaysia have recently initiated a security dialogue and are collaborating in the digital economy. An MoU on digital technologies previously signed by the two nations led to the creation of the Malaysia-India Digital Council, reflecting growing bilateral engagement.
