Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday praised the Digital India initiative, stating that it has transformed governance, empowered citizens, and strengthened India’s global identity in the digital era.
Marking 11 years of the programme, the Prime Minister said the Digital India initiative has become a cornerstone of India’s development journey, touching every aspect of life and making governance more transparent and efficient.
Digital India Initiative Redefines Governance
In a post on X, PM Modi said the Digital India initiative has redefined governance by improving transparency and ensuring that government services reach citizens faster and more efficiently.
He highlighted that digital payments, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), and expanding digital public infrastructure have made services more accessible, reducing delays and eliminating unnecessary paperwork.
According to Modi, the Digital India initiative has significantly improved the “Ease of Living” by making public services more citizen-friendly and technology-driven.
Boost to Innovation and Startups
The Prime Minister said the Digital India initiative has expanded innovation across the country, especially in rural areas and tier-2 and tier-3 cities. He noted that young entrepreneurs, startups, and innovators are now building solutions to address global challenges.

He added that the programme has strengthened key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and commerce, making service delivery more efficient and accessible.
India Advances in Emerging Technologies
Highlighting India’s technological progress, Modi said the Digital India initiative has supported the country’s growth in advanced fields like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and quantum computing.

Officials noted that before 2015, public services often involved long queues and limited access, but the Digital India initiative has helped bridge the digital divide by expanding internet access and bringing governance online.

Modi also highlighted India’s leadership in digital payments, stating that the country now leads global real-time transactions, with UPI accounting for nearly half of worldwide transaction volume.
He said the success of the Digital India initiative has attracted global attention, showcasing how large-scale digital adoption can transform governance and economic systems.
The Prime Minister concluded that the Digital India initiative will continue to focus on building a future where technology empowers every citizen and supports sustainable development.
