Bomb Threat Sparks Citywide Security Response

Mumbai Police are on high alert after receiving a chilling WhatsApp message on the city’s traffic police control number. The message claimed that 34 human bombs had been planted across the metropolis and warned that the city would “shake after blasts.”

The threat, delivered on Friday, came ahead of Anant Chaturdashi, a major festival when large processions take place. Authorities have intensified patrols and security checks at sensitive locations, fearing disruption during the celebrations.

According to sources, the sender identified himself as part of a Pakistan-based jihadi group named Lashkar-e-Jihadi. The message further alleged that 14 Pakistani terrorists had already infiltrated Mumbai and were preparing to strike.

Claims of RDX and Mass Casualties

In a disturbing detail, the threat claimed that 400 kg of RDX would be used in the planned explosions. It suggested that the attacks could result in “up to one crore casualties,” a figure experts say is exaggerated but still alarming.

Police officials stressed that even though the claims may appear exaggerated, the timing and specificity of the message make it too dangerous to ignore. Cyber units and anti-terror squads have been deployed to trace the origin of the message.

“This threat is being treated with utmost seriousness,” a senior officer confirmed. “Investigations are ongoing to determine the authenticity of the message and identify those responsible.”

Security Stepped Up Across Mumbai

Following the threat, security checks have been tightened at railway stations, airports, public transport hubs, and areas where large gatherings are expected. Key junctions and sensitive locations, including areas where Ganesh immersion processions will be held, are under strict watch.

Patrolling has also been intensified in markets, temples, and crowded residential zones. Bomb detection squads and sniffer dogs have been deployed in high-footfall areas.

Senior officials urged citizens to remain vigilant. “We request the public to stay calm but alert. Any suspicious activity must be reported immediately,” they said.

Rising Concerns During Festive Season

The latest threat comes amid a spate of hoax calls and suspicious emails targeting Mumbai Police in recent weeks. Security agencies worry that repeated threats may be part of a larger psychological campaign to create panic during festivals.

With thousands expected to gather for Anant Chaturdashi processions, authorities are not taking chances. Coordination between city police, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been strengthened to prevent any untoward incident.

Cyber teams are also analyzing the WhatsApp message to trace the sender’s digital footprint. Initial reports suggest the message may have been routed through international servers, making the investigation more complex.

Public Safety Remains Top Priority

Despite heightened concerns, officials reassured citizens that Mumbai Police are fully prepared to deal with any threat. “We are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring safety,” said a senior officer.

Authorities emphasized the importance of citizen cooperation during these times. They urged people not to spread unverified information on social media, as panic could aid those attempting to destabilize public order.

As the investigation unfolds, all eyes remain on how Mumbai Police and central agencies respond to this latest security scare. For now, the city stands watchful, determined to celebrate peacefully despite the looming threats.
