Surat to get a world-class Bullet Train station
Surat is gearing up for a historic boost in connectivity with the development of its Bullet Train station, part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project. The station, located at Antroli village near Surat-Bardoli Road, has been designed with a strong focus on passenger convenience, sustainability, and seamless travel.

The structure features spacious interiors with natural lighting from skylights, wide platforms, and soothing design elements aimed at providing a calm travel experience. Passenger amenities include waiting lounges, a nursery, restrooms, retail outlets, and food kiosks.
Special emphasis has been placed on accessibility. Multiple lifts and escalators are being installed to ensure smooth movement for the elderly, persons with disabilities, and families with children. Clear signage, information kiosks, and public announcement systems will guide travelers across concourses, platforms, and exit areas.
Multi-modal integration for smoother travel
The Surat Bullet Train station has been designed under the Station Area Development project (SMART), in collaboration with the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA). The goal is to integrate multiple transport modes, making the station a true modern hub.
Commuters will have easy access to metro trains, city buses, BRTS, taxis, and autos. This will reduce traffic congestion, streamline passenger flow, and cut down transition time between different transport services.

- Proposed Metro Station: 280 meters
- Surat Railway Station: 11 km
- Surat City Bus Stand: 10 km
- Chalthan Railway Station: 5 km

Sustainability at the core of design
The Surat station is being built with eco-friendly features aligned with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) standards. Rainwater harvesting, low-flow sanitary fixtures, and eco-friendly paints are part of the design. Wide openings and skylights ensure natural light and ventilation, reducing reliance on artificial lighting.
Landscaping with plants and saplings will create a refreshing environment, while the design of the façade draws inspiration from the city’s diamond industry. The station’s architecture symbolizes diamond facets, paying tribute to Surat’s global identity.
The station building will span 58,352 square meters with three levels:
- Ground Level: Parking bays, security checks, lifts, escalators.
- Concourse Level: Waiting lounge, kiosks, ticketing counters, restrooms.
- Platform Level: Spacious platforms with modern amenities.
At a total height of 26.3 meters, the structure has been planned to balance efficiency and comfort.
Project progress and future outlook
The Surat Bullet Train station is part of India’s first 508 km high-speed rail corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. According to officials, construction has reached advanced stages:
- 323 km of viaducts and 399 km of piers completed.
- 17 river bridges, 5 PSC bridges, and 9 steel bridges finished.
- Over four lakh noise barriers installed along 210 km.
- 210 km of track bed construction completed.
- More than 2,100 OHE masts installed covering 52 km.
- Excavation progressing on 7 tunnels in Palghar and 5 km of NATM tunnel near Mumbai.
- Rolling stock depots under construction at Surat and Ahmedabad.
With major structural works nearing completion, focus has shifted to finishing interiors, roofing, and station facilities. The project, when completed, will significantly reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to under three hours.
