J&K Police Uncover Major JeM-Linked Terror Network
In a major counterterrorism breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have dismantled an inter-state and transnational terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH). The operation, spanning multiple states, led to the arrest of seven individuals, including two doctors, and the recovery of 29 quintals (2,900 kilograms) of IED-making material from Faridabad, Haryana.
Officials described the discovery as one of the largest explosive seizures in recent years, potentially averting catastrophic attacks across northern India. According to a police spokesperson in Srinagar, the breakthrough followed weeks of coordinated intelligence efforts and surveillance.
The investigation began on October 19, when police discovered Jaish-e-Mohammad posters pasted across various locations in Bunpora, Nowgam, on the outskirts of Srinagar. The posters carried radical propaganda and calls for recruitment. Following this, police registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), as well as multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Explosive Substances Act at the Nowgam Police Station.
Terror Network Operated Through a ‘White-Collar Ecosystem’
As the investigation progressed, authorities uncovered what they called a “white-collar terror ecosystem” — a network of radicalised professionals, doctors, and students linked to foreign handlers operating from Pakistan and other countries.
Police sources revealed that the group used encrypted messaging platforms for indoctrination, fund transfer, and logistical coordination. Funds were reportedly raised under the guise of charitable and academic activities, and then diverted toward terror operations.
“The accused were involved in identifying individuals for radicalisation and recruitment into terror ranks. They also managed logistics, weapons procurement, and funding for IED preparation,” said a senior police official.
The group’s activities were uncovered during raids in Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal, and Shopian, and later extended to Faridabad in Haryana and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh in coordination with local police.
Explosives, Arms, and Electronic Devices Seized
During these raids, police recovered a massive cache of weapons and explosives, including:
- 2,900 kg of IED-making materials, comprising chemicals, reagents, and metal fragments.
- Two pistols — a Chinese Star pistol and a Beretta pistol with live rounds.
- Two rifles — an AK-56 and an AK Krinkov, along with ammunition.
- Electronic circuits, batteries, remote controls, timers, and metal sheets, suspected to be used for bomb assembly.
Forensic teams have begun analyzing the seized materials to confirm their chemical composition. Preliminary findings indicate that much of the explosive substance includes ammonium nitrate, a common component in improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Doctors Among Key Arrests in JeM-AGuH Module
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Arif Nisar Dar alias Sahil, Nowgam
- Yasir-ul-Ashraf, Nowgam
- Maqsood Ahmad Dar alias Shahid, Nowgam
- Irfan Ahmad (Moulvi), Imam from Shopian
- Zameer Ahmad Ahanger alias Mutlasha, Wakura, Ganderbal
- Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie alias Musaib, Koil, Pulwama
- Dr. Adil Rather, Wanpora, Kulgam
Officials believe Dr. Ganaie and Dr. Rather played a crucial role in providing logistical and financial support to the network. Both medical professionals were allegedly part of online radicalisation groups that connected with handlers based in Pakistan.
A senior J&K Police officer said the arrests expose a new wave of “educated radicalisation”. “This is a disturbing trend where skilled professionals use their influence and resources to assist terror activities under ideological motivations,” he noted.
Funding and Cross-Border Links Under Scrutiny
Investigations are now focusing on the funding trail, as police believe the network received foreign remittances through cryptocurrency and informal hawala channels. Multiple electronic devices and financial records were seized to track these transactions.
“The financial investigation regarding the flow of funds is ongoing, and all linkages are being traced and addressed expeditiously,” said the official spokesperson. “This operation demonstrates the dedication and coordination of our teams in neutralising threats before they escalate.”
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is expected to join the probe soon, given the module’s transnational links. Security agencies are also verifying whether any of the arrested individuals had previously travelled abroad or had connections with banned organisations.
J&K Police Reaffirm Commitment to Counter Terrorism
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have described the bust as a significant milestone in their counterterrorism efforts. “This investigation is a testimony to the diligence and determination of our team. We remain steadfast in stamping out terrorism from the region,” the spokesperson said.
As part of enhanced vigilance, police have stepped up surveillance in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, and Jammu region to ensure that no residual elements of the module remain active.
The discovery of such a massive quantity of explosives and the involvement of highly educated individuals underscore the evolving nature of terror threats in India — shifting from traditional militant networks to sophisticated, ideologically driven cells.
