New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs has announced a year-long series of cultural, economic, and diplomatic events to mark the 75th anniversary of India Japan Relations in 2027, which will be celebrated as the “India–Japan Year of Shared Horizons.”
The initiative aims to deepen India Japan Relations through youth engagement, business partnerships, cultural exchange, sports activities, and technology collaboration between the two nations.
India Japan Relations to Enter New Phase in 2027
The government said India and Japan Relations will be celebrated across both countries with coordinated programmes throughout 2027. The celebrations will highlight the evolution of bilateral ties from diplomatic beginnings in 1952 to a Special Strategic and Global Partnership in 2014.
The week of April 28, 2027, will be observed as “India–Japan Week,” marking the formal establishment of diplomatic relations.
Sports and Youth to Strengthen India Japan Relations
A key highlight of the celebrations will be SPORT-75, aimed at strengthening India Japan Relations through sporting activities. An India-Japan friendship cricket match will also be held during the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 as a curtain-raiser.
The initiative “Cricket Kizuna-75” will bring Indian coaches to Japan to train young cricketers, further strengthening people-to-people engagement.
Cultural and Creative Exchange Under India Japan Relations
To promote cultural ties, new programmes like IMAGE-75 and RASA-75 will be launched under the framework of India Japan Relations. These initiatives will focus on anime, manga, gaming, arts, music, dance, and traditional cultural exchanges.
A Buddhist delegation from Japan will also visit major spiritual sites in India to highlight shared civilisational heritage.

Business and Economic Cooperation
Economic cooperation will also be a key pillar of India Japan Relations, with the launch of “Business Connect-75.” This programme will link Indian business clusters with Japanese regional banks and enterprises.
Business delegations, roadshows, and investment meetings will be organised to promote trade and financial collaboration between the two countries.
Relations Focus on Innovation and Youth
The celebrations will also include ideathons and academic exchanges involving students and experts from both countries. These initiatives aim to promote innovation and strengthen future cooperation under India Japan Relations.
Youth participation, educational exchange, and technology collaboration are expected to play a major role in shaping the next phase of bilateral ties.
Relations Strengthened Over Decades
According to the MEA, India and Japan Relations have grown steadily over the decades—from a Peace Treaty in 1952 to a Global Partnership in 2000, and later a Special Strategic and Global Partnership in 2014.
Officials said the 2027 celebrations will further reinforce diplomatic, economic, cultural, and strategic cooperation between India and Japan, marking a new milestone in bilateral relations.
