New Delhi: The United States has reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, delivering a subtle yet firm rebuke to Pakistan’s longstanding territorial claims. The US Trade Representative’s Office released a map of India clearly showing the northern Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as part of India, including the Pakistan-occupied region.
The move underscores Washington’s support for India’s political map and signals that the US does not endorse Pakistan’s claims, despite Islamabad’s recent diplomatic efforts to strengthen ties with Washington. Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, have made multiple trips to the US to lobby for recognition of their stance, but the American government has maintained its support for India’s sovereignty.

The development comes as a diplomatic setback for Pakistan, highlighting the unshakable strategic importance of India in US foreign policy. While the US continues to maintain interests in Pakistan, including military and mineral trade, it clearly prioritizes India as a global partner.
The map was part of a graphic shared by the US Trade Representative, illustrating India’s commitment to reducing tariffs on US exports. Products such as tree nuts, red sorghum, fresh and processed fruit, dried distillers’ grains, and American wine and spirits are set to see reduced or eliminated tariffs under the new trade framework. Additionally, the US has agreed to cut tariffs on Indian goods from 50% to 18% and remove an extra 25% duty.
This move reinforces India’s geopolitical significance and marks a clear diplomatic affirmation of its territorial integrity by one of the world’s most powerful nations.
