New Delhi: On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 18 Namo Oxygen Parks across the national capital and launched a series of environmental initiatives under the nationwide Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign.
The event, held at the Namo Oxygen Park in Maidangarhi, marked a significant step toward improving urban green cover, enhancing air quality, and encouraging community participation in environmental conservation.
18 Namo Oxygen Parks Opened Across Delhi
The newly inaugurated Namo Oxygen Parks have been developed to serve as urban green lungs for Delhi. These parks are expected to improve air quality, support biodiversity, and provide recreational spaces for residents.
Speaking at the event, Bhupender Yadav emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and highlighted India’s progress in addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. He said that the development of Namo Oxygen Parks reflects the government’s commitment to creating sustainable urban ecosystems.

Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign Gains Momentum
The Environment Minister also highlighted the success of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, describing it as a people’s movement that combines environmental responsibility with gratitude towards mothers.
He urged citizens to not only plant trees but also ensure their protection and growth. According to the minister, public participation will be crucial for the long-term success of Namo Oxygen Parks and other greening initiatives.
Delhi Sets Target of Planting 15 Lakh Trees
Addressing the gathering, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Delhi Government has set a target of planting 15 lakh trees during the current year.

She said increasing green cover remains one of the most effective ways to improve air quality in the capital. The Chief Minister stressed that citizens must actively participate in plantation drives and help maintain the newly developed Namo Oxygen Parks to maximize their environmental benefits.
Three Key Environmental Publications Released
The event also witnessed the release of three major environmental documents prepared by the Delhi Government:
Working Plan Document for Delhi (2026–27 to 2036–37)
Management Plan for Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary (2024–25 to 2034–35)
Delhi Bird Atlas
These publications aim to strengthen environmental governance, biodiversity conservation, urban ecosystem management, and sustainable development planning in the capital.
Focus on Air Quality and Sustainable Development
Bhupender Yadav highlighted several measures being implemented to improve Delhi’s air quality, including mechanized road cleaning, pollution monitoring systems, industrial emission controls, and the promotion of electric mobility.
He noted that projects such as Namo Oxygen Parks are important components of broader efforts to create cleaner and healthier urban environments. The minister also stressed the need for integrated conservation of forests, wetlands, and grasslands to ensure ecological resilience.
Community Participation at the Core
The event concluded with a plantation drive under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign and recognition of civil society organizations that contributed to the Delhi Bird Atlas.
Officials stated that the success of Namo Oxygen Parks will depend largely on public participation and continued environmental awareness. With the inauguration of 18 new parks and ambitious plantation targets, Delhi has taken another step toward building a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future
