Punjab: Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur on Wednesday stated that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, considers senior citizens as a treasured part of society and a symbol of pride. She said the vision of “Our Elders, Our Pride” has been put into action with the release of more than ₹3,806 crore under the Old Age Pension Scheme during the financial year 2025–26 up to January 2026.
Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that over 23.62 lakh eligible elderly beneficiaries across Punjab are currently receiving financial assistance under the scheme. Each beneficiary is being provided a monthly pension of ₹1,500 to help them live with dignity, security and self-reliance.
Budget Provision Ensures No Eligible Senior Citizen Faces Delay in Pension : Baljit Kaur
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to transparency and efficiency, the Minister said a budget allocation of ₹4,100 crore has been made to ensure the smooth and timely disbursement of pensions. This provision, she added, guarantees that no eligible senior citizen faces difficulty in receiving their entitled support.

The Cabinet Minister also directed department officials to ensure that pension payments are delivered without delay. She warned that any negligence, delay or irregularity in distribution would invite strict action against the responsible officers as per the rules.
Reaffirming the government’s broader commitment, Dr. Baljit Kaur said senior citizens represent Punjab’s rich heritage, experience and values. Ensuring their dignity, safety and well-being is central to the vision of building a ‘Rangla Punjab.’ She added that the government remains dedicated to providing strong support so that elderly citizens can spend their later years in comfort and without financial worry, contributing to a prosperous and vibrant Punjab.
