GUWAHATI – Assam Assembly Elections 2026 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officially signaled the start of its re-election campaign by releasing its first list of candidates for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026. This initial announcement covers 88 crucial seats. It features a strategic blend of seasoned veterans and prominent former rivals.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will once again contest from his traditional stronghold, Jalukbari. He has held this seat consistently since 2001. His candidacy underlines the party’s focus on stability and leadership. Additionally, the list includes high-profile names like Pijush Hazarika and Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
Strategic Shifts and New Entrants
The 2026 list highlights the BJP’s expanding influence. Notably, the party has fielded former Congress heavyweights Pradyut Bordoloi and Bhupen Kumar Borah.
