Akashvani FM Transmitter in Jaisalmer Inaugurated by Ashwini Vaishnaw

New transmitter strengthens radio coverage and information access across Rajasthan’s border regions.

Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, virtually inaugurated a 20 kW Akashvani FM Transmitter in Jaisalmer from Akashvani Jaipur premises. The new transmitter aims to significantly strengthen radio connectivity in Rajasthan’s border regions and improve access to information for remote communities.

Expansion of FM Network in Rajasthan

With the launch of the Akashvani FM Transmitter in Jaisalmer, the total number of FM transmitters in Rajasthan has increased to 39. The transmitter at Ramgarh will provide coverage within an 80-kilometre radius, benefiting nearly 20,000 square kilometres of the Jaisalmer district.

The project is expected to enhance access to news, educational content, and entertainment for people living in border and rural areas.

Focus on Digital First and Local Content

Addressing the event, Ashwini Vaishnaw stressed the need for a “Digital First” and “Hyper-Local” approach in public broadcasting. He emphasized that modernization is essential for institutions like Prasar Bharati to remain relevant in the digital era.

The Akashvani FM Transmitter in Jaisalmer is also expected to support local content creation by integrating regional artists and strengthening community engagement.

Strengthening Border Communication Infrastructure

The minister highlighted that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of expanding broadcasting infrastructure from “Kashmir to Kutch.” The Akashvani FM Transmitter in Jaisalmer plays a key role in improving communication access in strategically important border areas.

This development will also help ensure timely dissemination of public information through All India Radio and Doordarshan networks.

Vision for Technological Advancement

Shri Vaishnaw also referred to the upcoming AI Data Centre in Jaipur, calling it a major step toward India’s digital future. He said such initiatives, along with the Akashvani FM Transmitter in Jaisalmer, reflect the government’s focus on combining technology with public service broadcasting.

Participation of Senior Dignitaries

The inauguration ceremony at Akashvani Jaipur was attended by Rajasthan Energy Minister Heeralal Nagar, Jaipur MP Manju Sharma, and Akashvani DG Rajeev Kumar Jain. Jaisalmer MP Umedaram Beniwal joined the event virtually.

The launch of the Akashvani FM Transmitter in Jaisalmer marks a significant milestone in strengthening radio connectivity and information access in Rajasthan’s border districts.
