Mumbai, February 10: Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda, celebrated for his comic timing and iconic performances in films like Hero No. 1, Coolie No. 1, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, has raised concerns over the 2022 film ‘Govinda Naam Mera’. The actor hinted at filmmaker Karan Johar, expressing displeasure that the movie used his name and drew inspiration from aspects of his personal life.
Speaking to source, Govinda said, “Kisi ne mere naam se picture bana di… shaayad Govinda Naam Mera… mujhe lagta hai Karan Johar ki thi” (Someone made a film using my name… maybe Govinda Naam Mera… I think it was Karan Johar’s).
The 2022 film, directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Shashank Khaitan, stars Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, and Kiara Advani. It revolves around a husband, wife, and girlfriend, portraying conflicts and misunderstandings in personal relationships.
Govinda emphasized the importance of maintaining respect and sensitivity when depicting personal lives. He urged filmmakers not to interfere in his personal affairs, adding, “…I promise, no misbehave, please. I request. With folded hands. Mazak har jagah par har tarah se acha nahi lagta hai…” (Humour is fine, but not at the expense of respect).
Backing His Son Yashvardhan
Govinda also spoke about supporting his son Yashvardhan Ahuja in his acting career, expressing confidence in his talent and technical skills. He said, “Yash mujhse behtar actor banega. Wo technically mujhse zyada strong hai… he is huge” (Yash will become a better actor than me. He is technically stronger).
Highlighting his efforts to guide his son, Govinda added, “Mere kehne par Sajid Nadiadwala ne usko cabin diya so that he can learn different aspects of filmmaking…” (On my request, Sajid Nadiadwala gave him a cabin to learn filmmaking).
Personal Life and Family Priorities
Addressing questions about his wife Sunita Ahuja’s claims, Govinda explained that he left politics to protect his family and children from potential adverse effects. He also stated that he prefers not to discuss personal allegations further, describing such discussions as disrespectful.
