New Delhi – The Delhi High Court has directed the immediate removal of the controversial ‘Volume 1’ song, performed by Yo Yo Honey Singh and Badshah, citing its “grossly vulgar, obscene, and derogatory” lyrics targeting women. The track, released under the music collective Mafia Mundeer, has been called out for being offensive and unsuitable for public access.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav stated that the lyrics of the ‘Volume 1’ song are highly vulgar and cannot be tolerated in a civilized society. The court ordered that all links to the track be removed from social media, streaming platforms, and other online channels by the singers and any rights holders immediately.
Petition Highlights Singer’s Continued Association with ‘Volume 1’ Song
The order followed a petition filed by Hindu Shakti Dal, which sought the removal of the ‘Volume 1’ song from platforms like YouTube, Google, and Spotify. The petitioner noted that Yo Yo Honey Singh had recently performed parts of the song at a concert, confirming his ongoing association with the track.

While reviewing the song in chambers, the court remarked that the title of the Volume 1 song was so objectionable that it could not even be reproduced in the official court order. The judge emphasized that artistic freedom does not justify circulating vulgar content, especially when it is accessible to audiences of all ages.
Notices Issued
The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the singers, directing that all URLs hosting the ‘Volume 1’ song be blocked immediately. The petitioner may also submit additional links to the Government of India, which can instruct platforms to remove the content promptly.
The Centre’s counsel assured the court that appropriate measures would be taken if grievances were submitted. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 7, 2026.
The court’s order reinforces accountability for online content and highlights that offensive material like the ‘Volume 1’ song will not be tolerated in digital spaces.
