Gautami Kapoor Shares Emotional Impact of Social Media Backlash Over Parenting Comments

by Desk

Gautami Kapoor opens up about depression and online trolling after her parenting comments went viral, finding support from daughter Sia.

Actor Gautami Kapoor recently talked about the emotional impact she experienced after a private parenting discussion escalated into a major social media issue. The actress, who had previously talked openly about having sex and intimacy with her daughter, disclosed that she was terrified, nervous, and having trouble sleeping as a result of the criticism.

Gautami Kapoor Responds to Unexpected Outrage on the Internet

In an interview with News18 Showsha, Gautami discussed the backlash she faced for remarks she made on a podcast months prior. The timing and severity of the response shocked her the most. The actor claims that the indignation was abrupt and perplexing because the interview was filmed about four and a half months prior to the scandal.

Gautami stated, “It came completely out of the blue,” clarifying that her comments were never intended to be a parenting tip or a general opinion. She made it clear that she was speaking just from her own mothering experience. “I was discussing my daughter, my child, and my bond with her. She then on, “I wasn’t telling anybody else how to raise their kids.”

Gautami also emphasized that she and her spouse, actor Ram Kapoor, think it’s important to keep lines of communication open with their kids. She made it apparent that different viewpoints are a part of society, even though she admits that not everyone may support this strategy. While some might concur, others might not. They have that right. She answered, “I don’t judge them.”

Trolling Had a Negative Impact on Her Mental Health

Even though Gautami made an effort to maintain her composure, the number and harshness of online remarks started to have a significant impact on her. The actor said that she entered a bad emotional state as a result of the trolling.

She revealed, “I kind of fell into a depressed state of mind.” It got upsetting to scroll through her Instagram feed because of the harsher comments. “I couldn’t sleep at night. Gautami remarked, “It was unbelievable to me that someone could write such things to another woman, to another human being.”

She decided to completely stop using social media because she was so overwhelmed by the negative. The actor disclosed that she avoided Instagram for over a month, putting her mental well-being ahead of responding to criticism on the internet.

Support from Daughter Sia During a Tough Time

Gautami discovered an unexpected source of strength in her daughter, Sia Kapoor, during this trying time. The actress sought advice from her daughter because she was unsure whether to openly address the situation or defend herself.

Gautami recalled Sia’s calm and comforting answer. She reminded her mother that fury on the internet is frequently fleeting and urged her to calm down and not act rashly. Gautami took her daughter’s advise seriously and chose to be quiet, preferring distance over conflict and serenity over confrontation.

The Remarks That Generated Discussion

The uproar began when Gautami candidly discussed normalizing discussions about sensuality with her daughter in an interview with Hauterrfly earlier this year. She said during the conversation that she had once thought about giving her daughter a sex toy for her sixteenth birthday, a suggestion that instantly sparked heated debates online.

“Mom, have you lost it?” she asked when I brought it up to her. Gautami had humorously noted that her goal was to break taboos between generations. She expressed her desire for her daughter to grow up knowing about and at ease with her body, something she believed many women are not given.

Later, Gautami revealed that her 19-year-old daughter respects her candor and can appreciate the origin of the idea. However, the comment sparked a lot of discussion on social media, with many people questioning the limits of age-appropriate dialogue and parental openness.
