The K Kamaraj Birth Anniversary was observed across Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several political leaders paying heartfelt tributes to the legendary Congress leader on his 124th birth anniversary. Leaders praised Kamaraj’s contributions to India’s freedom movement, education, and inclusive development, describing his legacy as an inspiration for future generations.
In a message shared on social media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Kamaraj as a towering figure of India’s freedom struggle and a dedicated public servant.
“Remembering Thiru K Kamaraj ji on his birth anniversary. A stalwart of India’s freedom movement and an exceptional public figure, he dedicated his life to nation-building. His unwavering commitment to education, inclusive development, and the welfare of the underprivileged continues to guide generations,” the Prime Minister said.
Leaders Remember Kamaraj’s Contribution to Education
On the occasion of the K Kamaraj Birth Anniversary, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar described Kamaraj as a visionary leader who transformed the state’s education system.
The Governor highlighted Kamaraj’s landmark initiatives, including the introduction of the midday meal scheme, which encouraged lakhs of children to attend school. He also credited the former Chief Minister with strengthening school infrastructure and expanding educational access, laying the foundation for Tamil Nadu’s social and economic progress.

Chief Minister Vijay Pays Floral Tribute on K Kamaraj Birth Anniversary
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, accompanied by members of his Cabinet, paid floral tributes to Kamaraj’s statue on Anna Salai in Chennai.
Marking the K Kamaraj Birth Anniversary, Vijay praised the late leader for establishing schools across villages, expanding access to education, and introducing welfare measures that benefited children from economically weaker sections.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged Kamaraj’s role in promoting agricultural and industrial development by building dams, reservoirs, and major industries that transformed Tamil Nadu’s economy.

Leaders from across the political spectrum joined in paying respects on the K Kamaraj Birth Anniversary.
Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin highlighted Kamaraj’s efforts to reopen more than 6,000 schools and introduce welfare measures such as free uniforms and textbooks. He also praised Kamaraj’s contribution to infrastructure through industrial development and dam construction.
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Tamil Maanila Congress President G.K. Vasan, former Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai, and several other leaders also remembered Kamaraj’s remarkable service to the state and the nation.
Week-Long Events to Celebrate Kamaraj’s Legacy
To commemorate the K Kamaraj Birth Anniversary, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) has announced a week-long series of events from July 13 to July 19.
According to TNCC President Manickam Tagore, the celebrations will honour Kamaraj’s legacy while also launching an anti-corruption public awareness campaign titled “Shun Corruption, Stand Tall” (Lanjam Thavir, Nenjam Nimir).
The programme aims to inspire citizens by promoting the values of honesty, public service, and social responsibility that Kamaraj stood for throughout his political career.
