Following the accident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan over the phone and assured complete support from the Centre for rescue and relief operations.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Amit Shah enquired about the situation and expressed satisfaction with the rescue efforts being carried out by the Kerala government. He also asked the chief minister to order a high-level inquiry into the incident.

During the discussion, CM V D Satheesan informed Amit Shah that the Kerala cabinet had already decided to conduct an investigation into the collapse.
The Wayanad Tunnel Project site witnessed the disaster after continuous rainfall weakened a large mound of excavated soil, causing it to collapse suddenly. Rescue teams immediately launched operations to search for missing workers and provide medical assistance to the injured.
The incident took place at a multi-crore tunnel construction project in Meppadi panchayat, one of the areas affected by heavy monsoon conditions.
