The issue surrounding the Amethi Panchayat Voter List has come under scrutiny after the name of former Union minister Smriti Irani was found missing from the latest electoral roll of Medan Mawai village in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district.
The Amethi Panchayat Voter List discrepancy has prompted district authorities to initiate an official inquiry to verify the reason behind the omission.
Administrative Probe Ordered in Amethi
Officials confirmed that the Amethi Panchayat Voter List published on June 10 did not include Smriti Irani’s name, despite her being registered in both Lok Sabha and Assembly voter rolls for the same region.
Amethi District Magistrate Sanjay Chauhan said that an inquiry has been ordered and the exact cause will be determined after the report is submitted. The Voter List matter is currently under review at the administrative level.
BJP Raises Issue With Authorities
Local BJP leaders have also raised concerns regarding the Amethi Panchayat Voter List irregularity. Party district president Sudhanshu Shukla said that an application for inclusion of Smriti Irani’s name has already been submitted to officials.

According to him, authorities have assured that the correction will be made after proper verification of the Amethi Voter List.
Background of Smriti Irani in Amethi
The Amethi Panchayat Voter List issue has gained attention due to Smriti Irani’s strong political association with the region. Smriti Irani represented Amethi in the Lok Sabha from 2019 to 2024 and resides in Medan Mawai village, where she is also registered as a voter.
She lost the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi to Congress leader Kishori Lal Sharma.
