New Delhi: The Bakrid Bank Holiday 2026 has led to bank closures in several states across India on May 27 and May 28 due to Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. Since Bakrid is a gazetted holiday, central government offices, banks, and many state government institutions are observing public holidays based on regional announcements and moon sighting.
According to official notifications, the Bakrid Bank Holiday 2026 schedule may vary from state to state depending on local observance dates and government decisions.
Centre Declares May 28 as Public Holiday
The Central Government has announced that all administrative offices in Delhi and New Delhi will remain closed on May 28, 2026, on account of Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid).
The notification issued by the Ministry of Personnel stated that the holiday has been shifted from May 27 to May 28 for central government administrative offices in the national capital.
The Bakrid Bank Holiday 2026 announcement has also impacted banking operations in different regions, especially in states where Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on May 28.
Banks Closed in Jammu, Srinagar and Kerala
Banks remained closed on May 27 in Jammu and Srinagar for Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha). The holiday applies to commercial banks, cooperative banks, Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), Small Finance Banks (SFBs), and Local Area Banks (LABs) as per the Reserve Bank of India holiday calendar.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Government declared a two-day public holiday for Bakrid on May 27 and May 28. The state government clarified that all government offices, educational institutions, public sector undertakings, and institutions under the Negotiable Instruments Act will remain closed during this period.
The Bakrid Bank Holiday 2026 in Kerala has resulted in extended closures for several public institutions and banking services at branch level.
Online Banking and ATM Services to Continue
Despite the Bakrid Bank Holiday 2026, digital banking services will remain fully operational across the country. Customers can continue using UPI, mobile banking, internet banking, and online fund transfer services without interruption.
The Reserve Bank of India’s RTGS and NEFT systems remain operational 24/7 throughout the year, including public holidays.
ATMs will also continue functioning normally, allowing customers to withdraw and deposit cash even during the bank holiday period.
Customers Advised to Check State-Wise Holiday Calendar
As Bakrid holidays differ across states, customers are advised to check the local bank holiday calendar before visiting branches. Regional observances, moon sighting, and state government notifications may affect banking operations in specific areas.
The Bakrid Bank Holiday 2026 is one of the major public holidays observed in May, along with scheduled second Saturdays, fourth Saturdays, and Sundays.
