The digital Census process has officially kicked off in Telangana from April 26, marking a major step toward modernising India’s population data collection system. Under this initiative, residents can submit their household information online through the official portal until May 10, making participation more accessible and efficient.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy launched the exercise and also completed the digital Census process himself, encouraging citizens to adopt the online method. He noted that this is the first official Census conducted after Telangana’s formation, adding to its importance.
The digital Census process plays a crucial role in governance, as the collected data directly influences fund allocation, policy-making, and welfare schemes. Officials stressed that accurate information ensures fair distribution of resources and inclusive development.
Steps to Complete the Digital Census Process
Residents can follow these simple steps to take part in the digital Census process:
- Visit the official self-enumeration portal
- Enter your mobile number, solve the captcha, and verify via OTP
- Select your State/UT, District, and Town/Village, then mark your location on the map
- Choose a preferred language from English or 15 Indian languages
- Fill in details about your household, housing conditions, and family members (around 33 questions)
- Submit the form and receive an 11-digit Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) via SMS or email
- Provide the SE ID to the enumerator during their visit
Bharathi Holikeri, Director of Census Operations in Telangana, stated that the online facility empowers citizens to directly contribute to the national data collection effort.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Reddy described the Census as more than just counting people, calling it a roadmap for India’s future growth.
Nagpur to Begin Census from May 1
The digital Census process will also begin in Nagpur from May 1 under India’s 16th national Census. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to implement a technology-driven approach under the theme “Census for public welfare.”
Key details include:
- Deployment of around 4,500 enumerators and 700 supervisors
- Each enumerator assigned about 800 residents
- Self-enumeration window from May 1 to May 15
- Door-to-door visits scheduled between May 16 and June 14
- Data collection via the House Listing Operation (HLO) mobile app
- Online submission available through mobile phones and computers
- Support for 16 languages on the platform
- Citizens receive an 11-digit SE ID after completing the process
Authorities have urged citizens to actively participate in the digital Census process, as it will significantly impact future planning, welfare policies, and equitable development across the country.
