Punjab Police arrest 42 drug smugglers, recover 2.1 kg heroin and Rs. 25,400; 332-day “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign continues across state.

Continuing the state’s relentless drive against drugs under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, Punjab Police conducted raids at 334 locations on Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of 42 drug smugglers and the registration of 35 FIRs across the state. This brings the total number of drug-related arrests in the campaign’s 332 days to 46,606.

During the raids, authorities recovered 2.1 kg of heroin and Rs. 25,400 in drug proceeds from the accused.

Chief Minister Mann has directed Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to make Punjab a drug-free state. To monitor progress, the Punjab government has also formed a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, dedicated to overseeing the war against drugs.

The operations involved over 120 police teams, comprising more than 900 personnel, supervised by 68 gazetted officers. In addition to raids, police checked 353 suspicious individuals during the day-long campaign.

The state’s three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—continues to be central to the campaign. As part of the de-addiction efforts, 16 individuals were convinced to undergo rehabilitation treatment on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Special DGP Arpit Shukla highlighted that “Gangstra Te Vaar,” a parallel initiative aimed at making Punjab gangster-free, has also been ongoing. On its eighth day, extensive checks of suspicious persons were carried out across the state, with several individuals detained for further investigation.
