BCB clarifies its stance after official M. Nazmul Islam called Tamim Iqbal an “Indian agent,” emphasizing player respect and potential disciplinary action.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has finally addressed the mounting outrage following a contentious statement made by one of its officials, which drew harsh criticism from both players and cricket fans.

Board member M. Nazmul Islam’s words were criticized in an official statement by the board, which also emphasized that the BCB’s official views, beliefs, and policies are not represented by such remarks, which may be seen as harmful, disrespectful, or inappropriate.

Inciting fury, Nazmul Islam called former captain Tamim Iqbal a “Indian agent.”

Following Tamim’s recommendation to use communication to settle the India-Bangladesh T20 World Cup venue disagreement, the statement was made. Players have threatened to boycott the BCB because of the disrespectful remarks, and the organization has distanced itself from them.

BCB dissociates itself from Nazmul’s remarks

In its statement, BCB made it clear that any remarks made by a single board member without permission from its Media & Communications Department should be regarded as private and not representative of the organization’s official position.

The board further emphasized that anyone whose behavior or remarks demean cricket players or have a detrimental impact on Bangladesh cricket’s integrity and reputation would face the proper disciplinary punishment.

Noting that those who have proudly represented the nation are regarded in the highest regard, BCB reiterated its unwavering support and admiration for both current and previous players. It emphasized how important players are to Bangladeshi cricket and how the organization places a high premium on their welfare, dignity, and general well-being.

How the dispute began

The dispute started when players and supporters reacted sharply to Nazmul Islam’s remarks, which were generally perceived as disparaging former captain Tamim Iqbal by suggesting he was a “Indian agent.”

As a result, the situation escalated further when the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) called for accountability and a public apology.

By denying the comments and providing guarantees of deference and disciplinary action, BCB seems to be trying to ease tensions within Bangladesh’s cricket community.

The board’s action comes as political and administrative issues have already affected preparations for Bangladesh’s participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
