Punjab Police foiled terror, seized 2,021 kg heroin, busted 416 gangster modules, and reduced crime rates in 2025, says DGP Gaurav Yadav.

In 2025, Punjab Police successfully upheld peace and tranquility throughout the state under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. They also achieved previously unheard-of successes in the areas of terrorism, crime prevention, and the Yudh Nashiyan Virudh anti-drug campaign.

In his Year Ender video, DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav stated that by taking aggressive measures against ISI-sponsored terror groups, all attempts to disrupt the state’s tranquility have been thwarted, as evidenced by the resolution of 12 terror cases and the arrest of 50 module members. He stated that in addition to these instances, Punjab Police has busted seven more modules. These included hand grenade strikes at various locations and one RPG attack on a police station.

He provided details on the Internal Security Wing’s action against terrorists, stating that they have arrested 131 people and busted 19 modules this year. They have also recovered nine rifles, 188 revolvers/pistols, 12 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 11.62 kg of RDX, 54 hand grenades, 32 detonators, four rocket-propelled grenades, one sleeve of disposed rocket launchers, two timer switches, three walkie-talkie sets, and eight remote-controlled devices.

DGP Gaurav Yadav highlighted the state’s unrelenting battle against drugs under the “Yudh Nashiyan Virudh” campaign, which began on March 1, 2025. He said that Punjab Police filed 29,784 FIRs, made 39,867 arrests, and recovered the biggest amount of heroin ever—2,021 kg—in a single year. In addition to seizing a significant amount of heroin, he stated that police had also found 26 kilograms of ICE, 698 kg of opium, 35,000 kg of poppy husk, 55.78 lakh intoxicant pills and capsules, and Rs 16.81 crores in drug money in the possession of apprehended drug smugglers.

He emphasized that Punjab Police has achieved one of the highest conviction rates in the nation—88 percent—by conducting investigations in a methodical and scientific manner. According to him, 5,901 of the 6,728 cases that were decided this year have resulted in convictions. According to the DGP, the “Safe Punjab” helpline changed the game by registering 10,889 FIRs with a 38% conversion rate based on 28,952 tips. According to him, Section 68-F of the NDPS Act was used to freeze property valued at ₹263 crores that belonged to 548 smugglers.

He noted that Punjab’s proportion of national NDPS arrests was 25% and that the state accounted for about 20% of all NDPS cases. He also stated that heroin seizures in Punjab accounted for nearly two thirds of all heroin seizures in the nation this year. The police also assisted 23,940 people in being admitted to de-addiction centers and directed 59,840 people to OOAT clinics as part of the preventative effort, highlighting the importance of recovery.

REACTION TO GANGSTERS

The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and field units have successfully busted 416 gangsters/criminals modules after apprehending 992 gangsters/criminals and recovered 620 weapons and 252 vehicles used in criminal activities from their possession, the DGP said, recounting the accomplishments of Punjab Police against the gangsters front in 2025. He said that in addition to other cutting-edge features, the Punjab Artificial Intelligence System (PAIS 2.0) now supports voice analysis, demonstrating AGTF’s continued technological advancements.

According to the DGP, there has been a consistent focus on issuing Red Notices and Blue Notices, as well as working with the CBI and central agencies to extradite and deport criminals who are headquartered abroad. This year, 11 Red Notices and 2 Blue Notices were issued. He added that Parminder Singh, also known as Pindi, was deported in 2025 for his involvement in terrorist activities and that two other criminals who were traveling between countries—Sukhdev Kumar, also known as Manish Bedi, and Sajan Masih, also known as Goru—were tracked down and arrested in Mumbai after the Punjab Police geolocated Anmol Bishnoi and shared the information with the Central Agencies, which led to his deportation.

DECLINE IN CRIME IN GENERAL

According to DGP, there were significant decreases in all major crime categories in 2025 compared to 2024 figures. Murders fell by 8.7% (745 to 680), kidnappings and abductions by 10.6% (1770 to 1583), snatching by 19.6% (2321 to 1866), and thefts by 34.3% (6714 to 4410). A strong drive against crime and improved detection are demonstrated by the rise in cases under local and special laws such as the NDPS Act, the Excise Act, and the Arms Act.

THE LAW AND ORDER

The DGP claimed that throughout the year, the state of law and order remained steady and under control, with elaborate security measures in place for six IPL and two ODI matches, the 350th Martyrdom Commemoration of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji at Anandpur Sahib, and the Sri Amarnath Ji and Manimahesh Yatras. He said that the Tarn Taran and Ludhiana Bye-Elections, as well as the state-wide Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Elections, were conducted smoothly.

According to him, 174 CASO operations, special operations, and checkings against NDPS offenders, criminals, and other anti-social elements were carried out throughout all districts and commissionerates. Additionally, Punjab Police has been essential to flood rescue efforts. According to him, there have been 5,119 reports of stubble burning occurrences this season in 2025, which is 50% fewer than the previous year.

He said that Rs 25 crore has been set out for the Dial 112-ERSS upgrade (FY 2025–2026). According to him, up to 46.14 lakh calls have been answered thus far, and the average response time has drastically decreased from 25 minutes to less than 11 minutes.

According to the DGP, anti-drone systems have been installed in the rural districts of Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Amritsar. He added that 896 personnel, SOG Hit, Ghatak, SSG, and ARP teams have been deployed in border districts and that a total of 2,367 CCTV cameras are being installed at 585 designated locations on the Second Line of Defence at the International Border at a cost of Rs 49.58 crores to act as a force multiplier to combat the influx of drugs, arms, and explosives from across the International Border.

Cybercrime

According to the DGP, Punjab obtained a lien amount in cyber fraud cases totaling ₹79.96 crores (out of the Rs. 418.29 cr fraudulent amount); this is a lien marking percentage of more than 19%, which is now the fourth-highest in the nation. “This year, 18 inter-state cybercrime gangs engaged in multi-crore cyber fraud activities were busted, and 300 mule accounts used for crypto frauds were neutralized,” he said, adding that the State Cyber Crime Wing’s DITAC lab won the 2025 Excellence Award in Digital Evidence Summit 2025 in New Delhi.

SAFETY OF ROADS

According to DGP, Punjab became one of nine States/UTs to achieve a decrease in both measures after the Sadak Surakhiya Force was established. The state saw a decrease in road accident fatalities from 4,829 in 2023 to 4,759 in 2024 and a decrease in road accidents from 6,269 to 6,063 in 2024. At a cost of Rs. 22.21 crores, the City Surveillance and Traffic Management System was introduced in SAS Nagar in 2025. Stricter enforcement has resulted in a notable 500% spike in speeding tickets and a 430% increase in drunk driving tickets this year.

Along with being the first to introduce the Nyaya Setu Application and perform best on CCTNS, Punjab also became a leader in the implementation of new criminal laws and tech-driven policing. More than 55,000 employees received CCTNS training, and more than 20,000 received training in new criminal statutes.

With ₹11.25 crores being aside for infrastructure and ₹10.62 crores given out as loans to 741 employees, police welfare continued to be a top concern.

19 modules were busted, 131 people were arrested, 9 rifles, 188 revolvers or pistols, 12 IEDs, and 11.62 kg of RDX. There are 54 hand grenades, 32 detonators, and 4 rocket-propelled grenades.
