Punjab Police arrest 61 drug smugglers in 282 raids on 293rd day of CM Mann’s anti-drug campaign, seizing heroin, opium, and cash.

In keeping with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign to eradicate the state’s drug problem for the 293rd day in a row, Punjab Police conducted raids at 282 locations on Friday, resulting in the arrest of 61 drug smugglers following the filing of 52 first information reports (FIRs) throughout the state. This brings the total number of drug smugglers caught in 293 days to 40,748.

528 grams of heroin, 2.4 kilogram of opium, 214 intoxicant tablets and capsules, and Rs 3.02 lakhs in drug money were found in the custody of apprehended drug smugglers as a result of the raids.

Notably, CM Mann has requested that the Senior Superintendent of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Commissioners of Police make Punjab a drug-free state. A five-member Cabinet Subcommittee headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has also been established by the Punjab government to oversee the anti-drug campaign. Under the direction of 60 gazetted officers, more than 100 police teams with more than 800 policemen have carried out 282 raids around the state. Throughout the course of the daylong operation, police teams have also examined up to 282 questionable individuals.

In an effort to eradicate narcotics from the state, the state government has implemented a three-pronged policy called Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention (EDP). As part of “De-addiction,” the Punjab Police has persuaded 23 people to receive rehabilitation and de-addiction treatment today.
