Punjab government reports record wheat and paddy procurement for 2025–26 under CM Bhagwant Mann, ensuring smooth payments, better mandis, and transparent PDS operations.

The Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department, directed by Lal Chand Kataruchak, made sure that the wheat and paddy procurement seasons in 2025–2026 were successful, demonstrating the Punjab government’s pro-farmer stance under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. For the benefit of all parties involved, including farmers, Arhtiyas, and laborers, the mandis made sure-fire provisions for enough sanitation, water, and bardana during both seasons, which greatly aided in making the procurement seasons smooth and hassle-free.

Over 130 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of farmers’ produce were purchased and hoisted within 72 hours during the wheat procurement season, which ran from April to May. The farmers’ accounts were credited with more than Rs. 27000 Crore.

Similarly, even though the State was devastated by floods, the Paddy procurement season (October–November) was a huge success. In order to ensure a successful season, the department machinery stepped up to the challenge presented by the floods. Over 156 LMT of paddy was acquired, and payments totaling more than Rs. 37000 Crore were credited to the farmers’ accounts.

The incredible success of the State Government’s campaign encouraging farmers to bring dry crops to the mandis in order to receive a fair price for their labor-intensively produced commodities was the season’s high point.

A specific ePoS device and Electronic Weighing Scale (EWS) have been installed at each Fair Price store, and every electronic weighing machine has been connected with the ePoS device in order to guarantee the efficient distribution of wheat in accordance with the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and to increase transparency and efficiency in the Public Distribution System’s operations. Additionally, 86.46 percent of the 1.31 crore beneficiaries have completed their eKYC to far.

The Legal Metrology Wing’s primary responsibility is to protect customers’ rights regarding accurate weight and measurement and to take necessary legal action when regulations established by the Legal Metrology Act of 2009 are broken. Up till October 31st, 2025, ₹16.41 crore in income had been generated during the fiscal year 2025–2026.
