Punjab govt releases 2025 social security report under CM Bhagwant Mann, detailing welfare funds, child safety drives, women’s schemes, and disability support.

The Punjab govt continues to carry out people-centric policies under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann with the goal of guaranteeing the well-being of every segment of society. A number of historic projects have been implemented in 2025 (the fiscal year 2025–2026) to improve the social and economic security of women, children, senior persons, and people with disabilities. Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister of Social Security, Women, and Child Development, made this statement.

According to Dr. Baljit Kaur, ₹6,175 crore was allocated for Social Security Schemes in 2025; of that amount, ₹4,683.94 crore had already been disbursed as of November 2025 for old age pensions and other financial aid programs. According to her, 35,29,216 beneficiaries are currently getting ongoing financial support, demonstrating the Punjab government’s dedication to creating a solid and dependable social security system.

The Minister emphasized the government’s determination to end child begging by announcing the commencement of Project JIWANJYOT, which involves specific enforcement drives in every district during the second week of each month. Project JIWANJYOT 2.0 has been put into place to combat child trafficking and find people who are pressuring youngsters into begging, further solidifying the campaign. 766 children have been saved thus far, and efforts have been made to educate and rehabilitate them.

According to Dr. Baljit Kaur, the government is making a sincere effort to eradicate the social ill of child marriage. With the help of 2,076 Child Marriage Prohibition Officers who were contacted throughout the state, 64 child marriages were promptly avoided in 2025.

According to her, protecting school-age children’s safety is still of utmost importance. Over the past four months, 2,385 school buses have been examined under the Safe School Vehicle Policy; 404 challans and the impoundment of two buses for safety infractions have resulted from these inspections.According to the Minister, Punjab is now the first state in the nation to use sign language during Vidhan Sabha sessions, allowing people with speech and hearing impairments to participate in the political process. Forty-eight translators, forty-two special educators, and one sign language interpreter have been hired for this project.

She added that people with disabilities are entitled to half the fee, while visually impaired people are given free travel facilities. ₹3.45 crore of the ₹350 lakh allotted for this initiative for FY 2025–2026 has already been spent. According to Dr. Baljit Kaur, One Stop Centers are open in every district and offer free legal, medical, and police support, counseling, and short-term housing to women who have experienced abuse. 5,121 women have benefited from these programs as of November 2025.

She further mentioned that all women in Punjab are eligible for free bus travel, which benefits about 1.20 crore women each month. Up till November 2025, ₹450 crore had been spent under this program.13,65,000 women in need have received 3,68,72,550 sanitary pads at no cost thanks to more than 27,000 Anganwadi Centers. With a goal of covering 1.14 lakh women beneficiaries, 69,110 pregnant women have received ₹26.06 crore through DBT during the current fiscal year.

At an estimated cost of ₹150 crore, the Minister also disclosed that five Working Women Hostels would be built in Mohali, Jalandhar, and Amritsar, with completion anticipated by 2026. Dr. Baljit Kaur concluded by reaffirming that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is still totally dedicated to bolstering social security, empowering women, and guaranteeing inclusive growth for a safe and prosperous Punjab.
